With over 130 years of combined experience, DNA Sports has trained over 1500 players, many of whom have gone on to play college and professional baseball or softball.

We believe that with the right training and mentoring any athlete can maximize their innate talents.

Andy Pohl - Owner & Founder

Andy Pohl was the Head Baseball Coach at Beachwood High School (Beachwood, OH) from 2017-2021, leading the program to its first Division 2 Sectional Championship in school history in 2021. Andy was named the 2021 Greater Cleveland Baseball Coaching Association (GCBCA) Division 2 Coach of the Year for his efforts. He has twenty years of varsity coaching experience, serving previously as Head Baseball Coach at Walter Payton College Prep (Chicago) and Newbury HS (Newbury, OH).  As Head Baseball Coach at Walter Payton College Prep, Andy directed the program to three consecutive Class 3A Regional Championships (2009, 2010, 2011), as well as a City Semi-Finalist appearance at Wrigley Field in 2010.  As an Assistant at Jones College Prep (Chicago), Andy helped lead that program to two consecutive Class 3A Regional Championships (2012, 2013).

Andy is a licensed school administrator in the State of Ohio and Illinois.  He has a Masters in Secondary Education from DePaul University and a Masters in Education Leadership from Northeastern Illinois University. He authored the Handbook for Athletics in Catholic Elementary School, a fifty-page document that currently serves as the athletic policy manual for the Archdiocese of Chicago. 

Andy has extensive experience with hitting and pitching development of all age groups.  He also has worked with individual athletes, teams, and organizations teaching the correct mental approach to skill development, training, and competition. 

Phil Turner - DNA Travel Coordinator

Phil is entering his 30th year as a summer league coach, tirelessly dedicating his time and energy to continuously enhancing and growing community based baseball. After a great high school career at Shaker, Phil went on to play at Ashland University from 1991-1994.   

Rick Giavonette - DNA Academy Coordinator

Rick played baseball collegiately at the College of Wooster from 2004-2006.  Rick has been a private baseball instructor for over ten years, specializing in catching and hitting instruction.

Dave Rosene - Chief Baseball Advisor

Dave Rosene has achieved and maintained a proficiency as an athletic specialist for over 25 years by his ability to apply various teaching and coaching methods to athletes according to their skill level and body type, identifying and correcting errors in skill technique, and effectively communicating fundamental and advanced philosophies to athletes with disparate backgrounds and personalities to produce their best performances in game settings while stressing team play.

His emphasis on skill work has succeeded at a high level, developing several professional players, multiple college athletes, and three high school players of the year in baseball.

Dave has won Baseball Coach of the Year honors in 1994 from the Chicago Catholic League and in 2004 in District B from the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association. In 2008 he was named Outstanding Baseball Coach of the Year by the Chicago Public League. In 2009 the Illinois High School Baseball Coaches Association named Dave the Class 3A Baseball Coach of the Year. As Head Coach of Jones College Prep (Chicago), Dave led his team to the 2011 IHSA 3A supersectionals for the third time in four years and was named the 2011 Chicago Public League Coach of the Year. In July 2011, he was named to the IHSA Baseball Advisory Committee. Currently Dave is the Chairman of the Chicago Public League Baseball Coaches Committee

Dave is a 1974 graduate of MacMurray College (Illinois) with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education and in 1990 was certified as a coach by the American Coaching Effectiveness Program.
